Chinese herbs have been used for thousands of years to treat a wide variety of diseases from allergies to vertigo. They are typically taken as formulas that contain anywhere from 6 to 20 individual herbs put together based on your body’s constitution and specific symptoms. At Boca Raton Acupuncture Clinic, we use herbs to complement acupuncture treatments and we usually do not prescribe them alone.
Chinese herbs can be taken in capsule, powdered, or raw forms. We typically prefer powdered herbs because they are easier to adjust than capsules and easier to prepare than raw herbs. Step by step instructions on how to prepare the herbs can be found below. You can also watch our video demonstration.
- Using the measuring spoon provided by the acupuncturist, scoop two level spoonfuls into a mug.
- Pour 6-8 oz of hot water into the mug.
- Stir until the powder dissolves. Some residues may remain at the bottom of the mug, depending on how well you stir.
- Drink the herbs in one sitting either half an hour before a meal or 2 hours afterwards.
- Repeat two times a day.
